Not Impressed…

President Obama is now filing a motion to stop the release of the photos of US Soldiers participating in the abuse of detainees. The photos came from the military’s own investigations and subsequent prosecution of soldiers. In a reversal of his previous position, the President said: “The publication of these photos would not add any additional benefit to our understanding of what was carried out in the past by a small number of individuals,…In fact, the most direct consequence of releasing them would be to further inflame anti-American opinion, and to put our troops in greater danger.” That’s all well and good, but I’m not impressed. President Obama politicized national security throughout the journey to the White House. Even if that were excusable, which it is not, the President’s primary job is to protect the American people (us). Since January 20, President Obama has signed an executive order to close GITMO without a plan to deal with the detainees. He has held the position that the Bush administration tortured terrorists in custody. He has as advocated the prosecution of those responsible for the Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (water boarding) policy drawing the dubious distinction between policy makers (lawyers) and those (CIA interrogators) who carried it out.  It should be noted that these tactics stopped attacks. On the Iraq war front, he stated: “We got sidetracked by Iraq and we have not fully recovered that initial insight that we have a mutual interest in ensuring that organizations like al-Qaida cannot operate,”. Next, in a nuclear disarmament speech in The Czech Republic, he stated:“…as the only nuclear power to have used a nuclear weapon, the United States has a moral responsibility to act.” Mr. President, do you know why Harry Truman dropped the big ones? Here’s a hint, it wasn’t reckless decision based on bad experience with sushi; it was one of the most difficult a President has ever made; a decision that envitably saved lives and secured surrender from a  brutal, fight to the last man regime. Nonetheless, the President Obama felt a nuclear disarmament crowd pleaser was more important than context. The latest example of President Obama’s incompetence is the reversal of the position regarding the release of the photos. Why did he agree to release the photos in the first place? No doubt he was aware of the impact of pictures of Abu Ghraib as well as phony stories of Koran flushing. It should be pointed out that our enemy (Islamic Terrorists) cut off heads, burn people alive and use mentally challenged kids to carry out suicide bombings. The idea that the illegal acts (not policy) of individual US soldiers, which are investigated and punished, are comparable to Islamic Jihadist is beyond the absurd. Now, the President is fighting the release of these photos as well as disputing stories in the British press that have reported the photos show acts more severe than Abu Ghraib. The President along with an abetting leftist press corp. created this issue; don’t ask me to be impressed by his motions to clean it up.
