Nothing But Truth’s Week in Review 6/5/09:

Murder and Media Bias

Two acts of murder gave us some insight into how the mainstream media views the world.  The murder of late term abortionist George Tiller gave us Blame- gate; the Media’s attempt to link the critics of Dr. Tillers practice to the act of murder.  Of course, this link did not stand up to light of truth; the pro-life movement universally, and unequivocally denouncing the criminal act.  The following day, you had an Islamic convert commit an act of murder; two recruiters from the Army and Navy were killed and wounded, respectively.  The two soldiers were standing outside their office talking and having a smoke when they were attacked.  Other than a few notable exceptions (Fox News), the media proved to be less than enthusiastic about pursuing the convert’s background.  Also, they did not make the connection between conversion to Islam and the act of terrorism.  Further, unlike in the case of Tiller, there was not a frenzy to cover the Islamic community’s response (still waiting for a universal denunciation).  Juxtapose the coverage of the Tiller murder to the terrorist act of an Islamic convert; the difference is clear. The Truth: Journalism in the mainstream media is DEAD!

Obamanomics

General Motors turned into government Motors with the government taking  a  60% share of the company (post bankruptcy) .  With the government owning the majority share of the company, President Obama, attempted to address the concerns of Americans, who were troubled by the implications of ownership.  In the speech, he said he was not interested in running GM. He then detailed where the cars would be made and what kind of cars they would be? Confused, don’t be; this is Obamaspeak where your words “as well as your actions” contradict each other.  The Truth: President Obama’s policies continue to assault the free market.

Rewarding Bad Behavior

The show I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here premiered.  The show put actors, reality stars and former pro athletes on an island where they take part in demeaning challenges like eating spiders.  This is all in the name of entertainment and charity with proceeds from the participants going to their select charities.  Of course, the interaction between some people who have made a living out of bad behavior provides an emotional, unstable environment.  The Truth: Just because you raise money for charity doesn’t excuse the way you make it; the ends don’t justify the means.  It should be noted that I am not making judgments on the individuals personally; just their behavior.

Double Standard

Newt Gingrich took back his comment about Judge Sotomayer being a racist…Rush Limbaugh (and Crane Durham) did not.  “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” Look, we can parse words and draw distinctions between ethnicity and race but that doesn’t change the perverted standard Ms. Sotomayer expressed.   The Truth: Transpose the words and person saying them; she would be immediately disqualified from SCOTUS.  Let’s not have a double standard.

President Obama made a speech…you already know my thoughts on that.
