President Obama’s Naiveté

Supporters of President Obama’s policies believe that mutual respect (not meddling),  pressing a reset button with unrepentant Russia and nuclear disarmament  will enhance national security and lead to a more peaceful world are in a word, naïve.  On the issue of not meddling, we have witnessed a brutal crackdown on freedom seeking protesters and a regime that is by recent reports accelerating their march to a nuclear weapon. Of course, when we do meddle, it is only to put pressure on Israel to make peace with a coalition government that has and continues to kill Israelis through acts of terrorism or missile strikes. We are resetting relations with a government that is suspected of murdering its journalistic critics and still refuses to abide by the French brokered withdrawal agreement with Georgia. So in order reset relations, we bail on missile defense commitments we made with the Czechs and Poles.  Now the Start Treaty and changes in our overall nuclear policy beg the question:  Does the President think nuclear weapons are the enemy?  Alternatively, does he recognize our enemies are regimes that foment terrorism, brutal oppression and the taking over of other countries through force or natural resource manipulation?

The policies of this administration have, and will continue to do nothing in the way of advancing freedom and liberty.  In fact, they will only make it more difficult for people to attain it and put into jeopardy countries who are currently protecting it.  However, it may make the world more peaceful …relatively.  Of course, there is peace in North Korea and Cuba, but not freedom or government by consent.

No doubt the President has many supporters of these policies.  Sadly, their thinking is fatally flawed (literally).  On a lesser scale, they blame guns not criminals.  I wonder if they realize that negotiation with oppressive regimes is only effective when backed by the sword.  Take away our swords (nukes) or willingness to use them, and the negotiation is over; we are at the mercy of our foe’s benevolence.  Twentieth century history is replete with examples of mass murder and genocide when we choose to advance these naive policies.
